Project
Notes: BY SONG
1) WHOOP MY BOTTOM / Song Writer F.
Riddell / Publishing (BMI)
Whoop My Bottom is the DEBUT release by "The HeeBee
GeeBees". Not to be confused with the "BeeGees", the HeeBee GeeBees are
a simple, sometimes raw, sometimes light hearted, sometimes goofy,
sometimes serious? (just
kidding) band. Though instrumentation may vary at times, the band is
driven primarily by Guitar, Drums, Bass, Saxophone & Harmonica. A
young/old band, the HeeBee GeeBees have a few members who work “REAL”
jobs, and getting out to play can be tuff. But, they love music none
the less, and enjoy when a crowd has a good time. “The DEBUT single,
‘Whoop My Bottom’, is something that just came out of simplicity.” said
saxophone / harmonica / guitar & vocalist Frazier Riddell. “In the
studio, we just kind of said let’s lay some tracks for this ‘whoop my
bottom’ hook line that had floated into existence one day. The song,
not even complete at that point (if you can call it complete now LOL)
was just a very simple hook. We took it from there, and as we began to
lay tracks, the rest of the lyrics just came into place.” The
HeeBee GeeBees are just having a good time, or so it seems, and as
artists, this is their first painting to offer to the public. I
personally cannot wait to see what is next.

2) 8 BALL / Song Writer
F. Riddell / Publishing (BMI)
Just when you thought you were
safe. The HeeBee GeeBees bring you a simple, yet heavy, blues groove to
remind you to “be careful who you trust”. Ain’t it so true. Don't get
caught, unprepared, behind that “8 BALL” !
“8 Ball” is the 2nd single
release of the ‘upcoming’ LP project (yet to be named but possibly
titled 8 BALL) by the HeeBee GeeBees. Though they have been described
as light hearted, humorous and goofy at times, well here you go with a
little brach off towards the serious, sort of. Still keeping to the
basic drive of Guitar, Bass, Drums,
Saxophone, with a little studio magic they fill out this little ‘Pool
Shot’ of a Tune. “We hope this tune translates to eventual peace and
relaxing” says Sax, guitarist, song writer John F. Riddell of the
group. “I wrote this particular tune while on vacation (summer 2016) up
in CT where my wife’s family is. It’s always a good trip and one of the
only times I get to forget about every day business and it’s
responsibilities. I always take a guitar, and though I didn’t play a
ton on this trip (with the exception of a crowd who wanted more and
more at Anne & Bob’s house) I did write a couple tunes, and this is
one I wrote with the HeeBee GeeBees in mind. Heck, about half was
written in the car while making the 1,400 mile drive. Driving is also a
nice mindless, yet sometimes productive, little thing in
life that I enjoy.” Riddell says he hopes, though a somewhat serious
song, the hopefulness and peace of times it was written in will be a
strong take away for others hearing this song. In their 1st single
“Whoop My Bottom”, I said I couldn’t wait to see what is next. Well
after hearing this track, I must admit, I have to say once again, can’t
wait to see what’s next!

3) Definition of Love / Song Writer
F. Riddell / Publishing (BMI)
The HeeBee GeeBees 3rd release,
"Definition of Love" also noted as "Round and Round and Round", is a
little quirky 'love' song. It roves from relationship, to street, to
church; and back. The song opens with a tail of how differently a man
and woman often see love. Then it takes that same theme, and move from
street folks to religious leaders, and speaks of how that "difference"
can really be anywhere, between anyone. This tune was tested live by
writer "F. Riddell" before the tune made it to the studio with the
HeeBee GeeBees. It works well, even acoustically, as a blues jam type
song. Well, that is right in the round house of the HeeBee GeeBees.
“Definition of Love" is the 3rd
release by the HeeBee GeeBees. They took the riff in the beginning, and
sort of wanted to treat it like the old Nancy Sinatra tune "These Boots
were made for Walking". They tried in the studio with several mixes
with only Bass Guitar, and it just wasn't cutting it. So came the
guitar doubling with the Bass with a little analog Delay mixed in. That
seemed to give it the "definition" it needed, pun intended. Beyond that
it was just sort of catching a good groove, and then the only other
challenge was where to take the lead. Guitar was attempted, as well as
saxophone, to no avail of feeling good about it. Then the thought of
getting a gritty sounding harmonica with some analog delay touching it
up was considered. A couple of passes and it was done form the most
part. "As always, we wish we had a large budget to do our recordings"
said band member Frazier Riddell, "but as always, we just do the best
we can with what we got." After hearing this 3rd release, I must admit,
I have to say once again, can’t
wait to see what’s next!
